On 24-25 June 2021, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, paid a working visit to the Parliament of Georgia and met with the leadership of the Parliament. During the meeting with Mr. Kakha Kuchava, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev expressed gratitude to the Georgian leadership for the important role in strengthening cooperation in the Black Sea Region. The Secretary General also thanked the Chairman for Georgia's continuous support for the activities of the Parliamentary Assembly. The PABSEC Secretary General informed the Chairman about the results of the 57th PABSEC General Assembly, which was held on 22 June 2021. The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation within the PABSEC and assured that the Parliament of Georgia and the PABSEC Georgian delegation will contribute to the activities of the Assembly. The meeting was also attended by Mr. David Sergeenko, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, PABSEC Vice-President, Head of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation, and Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, member of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation. During the meeting with Mr. Archil Talakvadze, former PABSEC President, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, the Secretary General informed about the results of the 57th PABSEC General Assembly and awarded him with the PABSEC Medal of Honour on behalf of the PABSEC President for the exceptional contribution towards strengthening the inter-parliamentary relations in the Black Sea Region. Mr. Talakvadze thanked the Secretary General for the high evaluation of his work in the PABSEC and expressed readiness to further enhance the cooperation with the Assembly. At the meeting with Mr. David Sergeenko, Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, PABSEC Vice-President, Head of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation were discussed the results of the 57th PABSEC General Assembly and the organization of future meetings of the committees and the Assembly. Also, the issue of restructuring the national delegation with a view of the decision by the PABSEC Standing Committee on dividing the PABSEC Economic, Commercial, Technological and Environmental Affairs Committee into two new committees was considered. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Ramaz Nikolaishvili, member of the PABSEC Georgian Delegation, and Ms. Nino Bujiashvili, secretary of the PABSEC Georgian delegation. The PABSEC Secretary General also met with Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, Leader of the Majority of the Parliament of Georgia, former Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia and owner of the PABSEC Medal of Honour. The Secretary General informed Mr. Kobakhidze about the results of the 57th PABSEC General Assembly. It was stressed that strengthening cooperation in the Black Sea region is important especially in the context of the difficult post-Corona recovery situation in the Black Sea region.
