Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in the Joint Conference of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan on "The Role of National Parliaments in Promoting Security and Stability through Green Economy, Connectivity and Sustainable Development", which was held in Baku on 22-23 May 2023. The Conference was attended by parliamentarians from the OSCE Member States, representatives of international organizations, and the diplomatic corps. The Opening of the Conference was addressed by Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ms. Margareta Cederfelt, President of the OSCE PA, Ms. Danjela Djurovic, President of the Parliament of Montenegro, and Mr. Roberto Montella, Secretary General of the OSCE PA. Within the framework of the Conference, panel discussions were held on “The Role of Green Concepts and Technologies to Sustainable Development and Economic Recovery” and “Strengthening the Resilience of Supply Chains through International Transport and Trade Facilitation for Sustainable Development”. Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, in his speech on the topic “The Role of Green Concepts and Technologies to Sustainable Development and Economic Recovery”, noted the importance of searching the effective ways in a crisis situation by solving social and economic problems and intensifying the national strategies for a green economy. Mr. Hajiyev stressed the important role of parliaments in developing effective legislation to implement green economy tasks, to attract investments in this area and underlined the importance of international cooperation in promoting sustainable development. On the sidelines of the event, the PABSEC Secretary General met with Ms. Margareta Cederfelt, President of the OSCE PA, and discussed further cooperation between the two organizations. The PABSEC Secretary General informed the President of the OSCE PA about the recent PABSEC General Assembly and the Summit of Speakers of the PABSEC Parliaments held in Ankara and invited her to the Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly, which is scheduled to be held in November 2023 under the Ukrainian PABSEC Presidency.
