A PABSEC delegation composed of Mr. Mustafa Hamarat, Chairperson of the PABSEC Committee for Legal Affairs and International Cooperation, and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, participated in the Fourth part of the 2026 Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held in Strasbourg from 30 September to 2 October 2026. During the session, a general debate on “Europe, the fastest-warming continent: accelerating climate action with young people” was held with the participation of European youth representatives. Other topics on the agenda included a family-friendly Europe and recommendations for demographic renewal, as well as the role of diasporas and migrants in strengthening social cohesion and democratic engagement. In the texts adopted, the Assembly called for stronger safeguards for media independence and pluralism, a human-centred approach to the introduction of artificial intelligence that protects workers’ rights, and coherent, long-term demographic strategies supported by family-friendly measures. On the sidelines of the session, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev met with Ms. Despina Chatzivassiliou, Secretary General of PACE. The two sides discussed opportunities for further cooperation and joint activities between the two Assemblies. Mr. Hajiyev invited Ms. Chatzivassiliou to participate in the 68th Plenary Session of the PABSEC General Assembly, to be held in Athens on 23–25 November 2026.
