The 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-speaking Countries (TurkPA) was held in Baku on 18 December 2019, upon the invitation of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, presented the PABSEC at this event. The Plenary Session was attended by delegations of member countries headed by the chairmen of the parliaments, as well as representatives of the structures of Turkic-speaking countries cooperation and international organizations. The theme of the Plenary Session was “Parliamentary Diplomacy in the Turkic World: Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Peace and Security”. During the Plenary Session, the reports and recommendations of the TurkPA standing committees were discussed, and model laws were adopted. The TurkPA Presidency was transferred from the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the end of the Plenary Session, the Baku Declaration was adopted. It was decided to hold the next Plenary Session in Kazakhstan in 2020. TurkPA granted observer status to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation. In his speech addressing the participants of the Plenary Session, the PABSEC Secretary General thanked the TurkPA for granting the observer status to the PABSEC and expressed hope for closer cooperation in the future. The Secretary General informed about the current activities of the PABSEC and planned activities for the future. On the sidelines of the plenary session, the PABSEC Secretary General met with the representatives of international organizations participating in the meeting.
